A Little Wordy

A Little Wordy is Battleship-meets-Scrabble with hidden words. Experts maximize information per swap and deduce opponent tiles from their exchange patterns.

Quick winning principles

  • Swap tiles that test multiple hypotheses about opponent's word length and letters.
  • Track which letters opponents pick from the pool—they reveal what they lack.
  • Build your word to be ambiguous until the final 2 tiles.
  • Endgame: count remaining pool letters to deduce opponent's last gap.

Ideal strategy

  1. 1

Swap information gain: exchanging 2 tiles that could each fit 3+ positions in your word forces opponent to reveal whether they hold those letters.

  2. 2

Opponent tile inference: if opponent swaps repeatedly without taking from pool, they're refining a fixed length—narrow your guess to that length class.

  3. 3

Ambiguous word construction: words with common 2-letter endings (-AT, -ER, -ED) keep multiple valid interpretations until late game.

  4. 4

Pool letter counting: when pool has 4 tiles left, enumerate all words opponent could hold given their swap history—usually narrows to <5 candidates.

  5. 5

Defensive swaps: late game, swap tiles you know opponent needs based on their earlier pool picks—deny without revealing your word.
