King of Tokyo

King of Tokyo is king-of-the-hill with dice. Experts balance staying in Tokyo for points against claw damage, evolve for late-game power, and know when to yield Tokyo to heal.

Quick winning principles

  • Tokyo city: +2 points per turn but all opponents hit you.
  • Leave Tokyo voluntarily when below half health unless winning on points.
  • Three claws = 1 damage to all outside Tokyo; in Tokyo, all hit you.
  • Evolve early for card advantage; points path needs Tokyo time.

Ideal strategy

  1. 1

Tokyo city economics: entering Tokyo earns 2 points immediately + 2 per turn inside. The cost is every claw rolled by anyone damages you. Stay only with 8+ health or lethal point lead.

  2. 2

Points vs claws victory: 20 stars wins regardless of health. A player at 16 stars should prioritize hearts and Tokyo over claws.

  3. 3

Heal timing: heal when at 4-5 health outside Tokyo. Inside Tokyo at low health, yield the city — re-entry gives 2 points and resets targeting.

  4. 4

Evolve strategy: energy on evolution cards scales late game. Early evolutions (stretch goal, parasite) compound; don't spend all energy on single-use cards.

  5. 5

Claw pressure: three claws forces opponents to heal or die. When you have claw mutations, stay out of Tokyo and let others fight inside.

  6. 6

King of the hill: when two players contest Tokyo, third player claws freely. Stay out until one is eliminated or weakened.
